For sure, you can’t believe what mobile phone I am using right now. Yeah, it’s Sony Ericsson P910i, my first mobile phone purchased in the UK. Well, let me recall this…
Back to 2004, when I was still in Brighton&Hove doing my ELP course in Bellerbys college, there was a classmate who came from Shaoxing, China, was using a smartphone I had never seen before. At that time, the phone just looks like a mini-computer in my opinion, well, obviously it’s not as superb as today’s technology, however it did look very cool, in the later days, I heard it’s called Sony Ericsson P800. After a short summer holiday, UK had launched the newer model – P910i, to my understanding, that’s really an upgraded model comparing to P800 & P900, I really fancied the feeling by holding a latest phone in my pocket. So, after some mental struggling (well, you should understand it’s a very expensive phone at that time and I was still very careful of spending every penny.) , I had my first contract in the UK. Let’s see what the deal was, you might be laugh out loud. /憨笑
I paid:
35GBP a month, 12 month contract, 200GBP for the handset, and by the time I was still under age, so I paid 120quid for the deposit as well. That sounds crazy isn’t it, the most “silly” point is, I had my contract in a private phone shop, called “lucky”, a well known Malaysian guy in Chinese community around Brighton. The reason I call it “silly” is that I should have my contract in a big company like CPW or P4U, the private phone shop can cease at any time without warning, but luckily, I had my deposit back 12 month later, not sure whether it is still exist now, who cares /调皮 .
Anyway, guess what I paid that time can easily purchase a new white iPhone 4 nowadays, but technology just being crazy these years, things are so different by the time.
Since it was a very cool phone at that time, I became the first or second (not very sure, but seems to be) P910i user in Bellerbys College, and as you can imagine, many student just felt envy about this, and asked me where & how much to buy. I had been using P910i till September 2005, followed by changing a new Nokia smartphone (I might talk about this Nokia later if I remember more, but it is still being used by my dad now. /支持你 ) But during my first year in the University, I still used P910i for quite a while, as I found a lot info about my current girlfriend on the phone, those precious memory. /无辜
The reason for me using this phone today, not only because I want to catch up those memories, but also for that fact P910i still works exceptional well. It’s by no mean of android, iOS, webOS etc, to be a “real” phone, it does the job, and I can even play “MAU MAU” on this platform, classic game, absolutely love it.
I have sold out all my spare smartphones already, to be honest, I am bit fed up with new smartphones these days, still looking forward the next generation iPhone later this year though, haven’t decided whether to buy or not, but I will keep an eye on it, I am sure we all do. /可爱
