What a funny day!
Yesterday, I walked into the O2 store in Bullring (Birmingham) to check out the iphone 3G case, luckily, one of the sales lady talked to me about the last day of O2 box promotion. YES, of course I know it days ago, but I thought it ended on Monday and also many O2 store “reject” to sell these nice 9.99 quid (original 50 GBP) ADSL2+ modem to customers as we all know lots of margin had been made throught eBay or whatever they like. Well, the lady was very nice about the “straightforwards”, i.e. you don’t have to sigh up for any contract or whatever, you can do it later if you need, now, it only costs 9.99. Yes, I know a lot customers trying to grab one for upgrading their old & nasty O2 box, however, I am not a O2 customer but it’s subsidiary Be, and for over 2 years… I, like many of the Be/O2 customers, we hate about the old fasion box with really limited function and desperate want a upgrade, although I am not sure about whether I can use the O2 wireless box can use on Be service. But why not just give it a try? Only a tenner won’t make me stressful, and if it doesn’t work, just put it on ebay, still can make little spare cash, what a “nice” idea~
However, by the same time during the decision of purchase, I made my order to TWO. Well, the lady started to feel a bit confuse, what? TWO? I said, yes, please, can I buy 2? The lady just went back to the storage room happily with some smile on face. The reason to purchase 2 is from the experience happened 4 years ago, when 1st gen iPhone sold about 160 quid due to clearance!! Lots, lots, lots people bought the cheap iPhone 2G and resell to oversea, definitely, lots mark-up generated jumping into resellers’ pocket. This time, I am not saying to make “lots” of money out of the O2 box, it’s just straight come out of my head, and if I can use one by my own, resell one off ebay or whatever.
By the same time I paying for my item, the lady explained about some “situation” to the store manager (sort of, not really sure), couldn’t hear clearly what the lady saying, but might reletive to “Promotion” to new customers? Anyway, I grabbed the big O2 paper bag (the “I GOT IT” one) out of the store to meet up mates with some lucky and happy feel.
Back to home, I started to configure the O2 wireless box 4, initially, I guess some certain setting must be made to “meet up” the Be box configuration. I did some silly setting but the box just can’t connect to internet. Bingo, suddenly I remember O2 had their broadband service based on Be several years ago, not sure about whether it is the same service, but just try !! So, I reset the box and make everything in default, after waiting the “blink blink” little green led indicator, what a miracle!! it works… I am so happy about this, setting everything afterwards. The router/modem just works straight out of the box with Be user. I am on Unlimited package, which is about 1800K/S and the DL/UL speed is about the same as the previous old & crappy Be box (TG585), the big improvement about this upgrade is the “N” wifi support, and also about the 2 USB ports on the hub making sharing files so easy at home. Apart from this, the ventilation looks reasonal nice. More info can be found here.
So guys, if you feel your Be box is a bit old fashion, why not try this one for just 9.99 GBP and of course you already bought one like me.. The other issue I do concern is about the SuperUser log in detail, which makes me able to configure more and of course if some great hackers figure out the way to root or unlock, that would be miximising maximising the tenner, isn’t it.
